TV applications may operated on different locations on different types of
systems including within devices (embedded), within the network, or at an
external location.
Embedded Apps – TV Application Programs are Stored and Run within Devices such as TV, STB, Blu-Ray. Embedded apps must run on the device which may have limited processing and memory resources. Network Apps – TV Applications are Stored and Run within the Network. Walled Garden. Cloud Apps – TV Applications are Stored and Run outside the Network. A thin client (smallsoftware interface program) is installed on the video device which links to a server that is connected through the network. This figure shows some of the TV application platform types. This example shows that TV applications may be embedded within the video device such as a TV, set top box, or Blu-Ray player. TV widget applications may be run within an application host within the TV broadcaster’s network. TV applications may also run at locations accessed via the Internet cloud. | ||
